Liam (3yrs old) started to have an interest in dinosaurs around one and 1/2 years old. But it wasn't until he saw the movie "Dinosaurs" by Disney that his interest turned into a full on love affair. We've probably watched the movie over 20 times and he still isn't tired of it. Eventually they became the only toys he wanted to play with and over time his collection began to grow. Now he has dinosaur pajamas, t- shirts and now his new favorite, dinosaur underwear (Hurray for potty training)! Of course he is able to name them and even describe features that make each one different from the other. I taught him a song about the stegosaurus that I learned in the 3rd grade and never forgot and now he ask me to sing it to him all the time.
We read from a book almost every morning and he always repeats the names of the dinosaurs he's familiar with like, T-rex, stegosaurus, triceratops, Brachiosaurus. There are a handful of other dinosaurs with ridiculously long names like, velociaraptor and sinosauropteryx that were even hard for me to pronounce. So I would just skip through those names assuming that either way, they were way to difficult to learn at his age. Well just a few days ago I attempted and sound out each letter and teach him the new names and would you believe this little boy genius repeated them back to me clear as day! It only took a few times of repeating and coming up with a few rap songs to remember the names and now they roll off his tongue without any hesitation. I keep trying to film him doing it but of course the minute I whip out the camera he gets all silly and doesn't perform! I won't give up though...
This is a video I filmed last year of the day I took him to finally see dinosaurs in person. I thought he'd love it but instead I traumatized him..lol. He now see's this video and laughs about it all.
